Shopping in Pamukkale

The town of Pamukkale is a small hillside town very typical of this region and mostly a quiet residential area. While the visitors to the area have meant there are now hotels and of course small souvenir shops.  Also within the Antique Pool spa are some shops where souvenirs are available.

What to buy in Pamukkale?  The area is famed for it's cotton ware and hand made household goods.  Find towel, bathrobe and other textile products as well as leatherwear in many shops.

In modern times Denizli has become famed also for two unrelated products, the Denizli Rooster, and the production of quality glass. Hence you will find many example of blow and cut glass rosters available for sale!

More traditionally carvings made from Onyx and Marble, which are both found in this area, make great examples to take home. Shaped into both decorate and practical items you may find camels and desert hares beside clocks and vases.  Turkish water pipes are of course also ever popular.

For edible items of course the product of the local vineyards and the world renowned Pamukkale Winery are for sale here, and on the sweet side you may find various specialties of Turkish Delight in a large variety of fresh choices.

Antique Pool

Situated above the Pamukkale white travertine pools is one particularly spectacular location fed by the same hot springs. Here you can bath in the same waters in which Cleopatra once swam! A professionally run modern spa facility allows you to enjoy these historical healing waters.

Unlike the white water of the lower pools the Antique Pool favored by Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, is pure clear warm water. Once it was surmounted by a Roman Temple to Apollo with ornate roof held up with Doric columns. Imagine how Cleopatra must have experienced this when you imagine it in it's glory day.
